I had once been a king; Once I had a pack. Now I am alone and an outcast... Let me tell you my story:
It was the beginning of fall and I was a proud father. I sat on a slab of rock above the den, when the beta male stalked over to me. He glared right into my eyes giving me a challenge that said "fight me ." In that insist there was a snap of teeth. I cried out when the beta nicked my neck and ripped my shoulder open clean to the bone. At this I knew the fight was lost, so I showed my throat in submission and tucked my tail between my legs. The beta chased me off his new territory. A few days later I learned from the ravens that the beta had slain my pups and took my queen.
It's winter now, and I'm very weak. I haven't had anything to eat for three weeks. I don't even have enough strength to stand. I'm afraid to sleep, knowing I won't last much longer. My eyes close, my breath slows and I fall into a peaceful sleep, never to open my eyes again.
I was watching a show on Animal Planet about wolves when I realized the harsh law of nature. I thought about for awhile and came up with this short story about a wolf who is cast out of his pack

NOTE*A beta wolf is the second strongest male in a pack.
